Newark breaks ground on housing complex for LGBTQ+ homeless community

The city of Newark is taking steps to provide housing for members of the LGBTQ+ community who are homeless.
A groundbreaking was held on Tuesday for a new complex that is specifically designed for these individuals. The 11 units will safely house LGBTQ+ and homeless youth in a supportive and affordable way.
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka says that this affordable housing complex should just be the beginning.
“Eleven is awesome, but we need more. We need more supportive housing. We need supportive housing for the LGBTQI community. It is already a problem in the city to try to develop housing as it is,” Baraka says.
The RAIN Foundation and its partners were able to develop the complex thanks to $1.3 million in funding.
