2ds agoCollege campuses in New Jersey will be getting a boost from the state next year.
Gov. Phil Murphy visited the Rutgers University New Brunswick campus on Tuesday to announce that the state will fund the improvements through the Higher Education Capital Facilities bond program. The state is setting aside $400 million for the effort.
Applications from private and public higher education institutions are due early next year.
“Topping up these funds right now is the right thing to do. Interest rates today remain at near-historic lows. Yet the needs of our institutions remain at near-historic highs,” Murphy said. “For the Higher Education Capital Improvement Fund, this will be the first addition of new funding since 2015.”
The governor said the injection of funds will also provide grants for colleges and universities to purchase technology infrastructure, buy equipment and improve lab facilities.
