A Fairfield student was arrested after police say they made a threat against a school in town on the social media app Yik Yak.

Police in Fairfield say the FBI of New Haven notified them about a possible threat made toward a Fairfield school.

School administrations were notified, and police started looking into the credibility of the threat.

Police say during their investigation they determined the person who posted the threat was a student in the Fairfield Public School system.

The student was arrested, and police say there are no active threats against any Fairfield schools, students, or staff.

However, because of the unsettling nature of the incident police say there will be extra officers at schools today.

The latest incident is just one of dozens of school threats in recent weeks, not just in Connecticut, but across the country.

Last month in Norwalk, a juvenile was arrested following a slew of hoax threats that prompted several school lockdowns.

Fairfield's superintendent says there are no active threats currently and thanked police for their swift response in investigating.

According to the Apple App Store, Yik Yak is a social media smartphone application that allows people to create and view discussion threads within a five-mile radius.
