Police are asking for the public’s help to identity a suspect they say opened fire inside of a Cypress Hills residential building on Sept. 25.

They say it happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Essex Street and Folsom Place. The man seen in images released by police firing gunshots into a 29-year-old woman's apartment on the upper floors.

Police say no one was harmed. The suspect ran out of the building shortly after.

Residents who asked to be anonymous told News 12 that entering the building requires a password or key fob. They hope the man does not return.

"It's scary to know someone can walk in and do that, and this is a new building – two years old," said one resident.

The incident left a bullet hole in the door that is still there as of Sunday night.

Two residents told News 12 they are neighbors to the room that got shot up and had walked in just a minute prior to the shooting.

“I thought it was a lightbulb that exploded, and the super told us what happened,” said one resident who asked to remain anonymous.

They say they are now watching over their shoulders when they come in and have bought a Ring doorbell camera in case the suspect comes back.

The suspect is described as a male in his 20s or 30s, with dark complexion and a slim build. Anyone with information is asked to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers.
