BK Lawmakers urge MTA to use electric buses
Brooklyn lawmakers and environmental activists are urging the MTA to use electric buses during the L train shutdown.
Council members Rafael Espinal and Stephen Levin and the environmentalist group, Sierra Club, are asking Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the MTA to consider using electric buses.
They say the MTA does have hybrid gas and electric buses in their fleet, but those vehicles won’t do enough to protect the environment.
The council members and group are still waiting to hear back from Cuomo on their proposal.
The L train will be shut down in April of 2019 for construction and is expected to remain closed for 15 months.
No concrete transportation alternative has been offered by officials yet.
