Artist's Grand Street mural honors Puerto Rican-run businesses
Artist Don Rimx brings beautiful Puerto Rican flair right into the Williamsburg neighborhood with massive grand mural along Grand Street.
It started with a call by a resident who lived in the area for some time and knew the walls on Grant Street needed something to describe the community.
That resident called up the Grand Street Business Improvement District, and along came the idea for a mural from Don Rimx.
A majority of those small businesses along Grand Street were Puerto Rican-run, so Rimx came up with his mural entitled "Olor a Azucenas Perfume Del Barrio."
The inspiration behind the mural was the hardworking people of his community back home in Puerto Rico.
The community is already recognizing his vision. They remembered the Azucena flowers as well, and how it correlated to the perception of small businesses within the culture.
“It was like bringing that sense from Puerto Rico to New York to Brooklyn,” Rimx said.
Rimx has been working on the mural for four days now and says it should be completed within the next two weeks.
