Some small businesses in Sunset Park say water main break repairs are going to impact holiday shopping in the area.
The rupture on Nov. 24 flooded the entire area of Fifth Avenue between 39th and 45th streets. It left many small business owners wondering if they would be able to turn a profit during their busiest time of the year. Now, constant construction blocks off the eastbound side of the road as crews try to repair the pipes as quickly as possible.
Sunset Park Business Improvement District Executive Director David Estrada says businesses are concerned that the ongoing noise and construction will deter people from coming to the area to shop in the first place.
Small business owners say they are going to keep sticking together to weather the storm, flood or construction.
Sunset Park Business Improvement District says it expects a few water lines to be reconnected by the end of this week.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Environmental Protection and is still waiting to hear back.
