After seeing crime go up across the city during the first two months of 2020, crime decreased in the month of March, according to the NYPD.
The NYPD says it has to do with social distancing guidelines that were put in place for more than half of the month. They point to one date in particular, March 12, and say that’s when the trend began to change.
March 12 was the day Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency and began a string of restrictions to try and limit the spread of the coronavirus.
