News 12 meteorologists say a low-pressure system brought heavy rain and damaging wind gusts to Long Island on Monday.
A high wind warning was issued for much of Suffolk County for much of the day, with wind gusts can climbing over 50 mph.
Heavy rain started pounding areas of Nassau County around 11 a.m., and that rain intensified at various points of the afternoon across parts of Long Island.
The threat of some strong precipitation, possibly coupled with some thunder, lasted into the night in eastern Nassau and Suffolk counties.
The heavy rain led to street flooding and coastal flooding in some low-lying areas.
Tuesday will see sun and clouds with the chance of a brief sprinkle and highs around 53. It turns colder for Wednesday, with highs around 44.
