An electrical fire broke out inside a Highbridge recording studio overnight, killing one person and injuring four others.
Officials say the fire started in the commercial building at 1538 Plimpton Ave. just after midnight. Studio regulars say the owner's nephew, Winston "Sobrino" Munos, was designing album covers for recording artists at the time.
The 22-year-old was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. Two other civilians and two firefighters also suffered injuries.
Producer Jose Perdomo describes Munos as a college student who stayed off the streets and was dedicated to his work.
Community members and artists say the place had helped keep kids out of trouble while exploring their talents. Artists like Aventura and Romeo recorded at the small Highbridge studio at the earliest stages of their careers.
The studio had been undergoing renovations at the time of the fire.
