A teenager is in the hospital after police say she was shot early Wednesday morning.

It happened on the corner of East 149th Street and Saint Ann's Avenue in Mott Haven.

Police closed off the scene outside of St. Mary’s Park where they say the 15-year-old girl was shot in her leg.

Police say the shooting happened around 5 a.m.

The teen told police she passed a man on the street who called out to her when she suddenly heard shots and felt pain. 

The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital. She is expected to be OK.

Investigators say the shooter ran off after the shooting.

He is believed to be in his 20s and was last seen wearing a red sweater, red sneakers and jeans.
