Police say a 19-year-old pregnant woman is in critical but stable condition after she was shot in the head Sunday afternoon.
The shooting occurred around 1 p.m. on Howard and Dean Streets, and was witnessed by longtime friend of the victim, who says he heard two shots and the victim's niece cry for help.
Local activists have offered support, and are shocked to hear of the circumstances.
"We had a 19-year-old young lady who hasn't really seen the rest of her life yet and now possibly has brain damage," says community advocate Tony Herbert. "Couple that with the fact that she's five months pregnant and we need to protect that baby as well, so you know, we've got a lot of prayers that need to go out."
Police are looking for a suspect, and only have been able to identify that it is a black male
