2 victims of Jersey City shooting buried in Palm Tree Wednesday night
Hundreds turned out in the Hasidic community of Palm Tree Wednesday night for the burial of two victims in Tuesday's market massacre in Jersey City.
Mindy Ferencz and Moshe Deutsch were shot Tuesday when authorities say two attackers ambushed a Kosher market in Jersey City.
According to the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg and North Brooklyn, Mindel and her husband grew up in Palm Tree and owned the market. They say it was the first kosher grocery store in the area.
Mindel was described as a caring and nurturing mother to her five children who lived a life of selflessness to others.
Deutsch dedicated his life to studying the Jewish faith daily, learning in a yeshiva that he was instrumental in establishing and getting off the ground. Those who knew him described him as kind and generous.
When Deutsch wasn't working, he spent his time volunteering and organizing Passover food distribution, taking after his father, who was a leader in his community. "There's an organization called Chai Lifeline. He was actively involved in their activities, going to patients in the hospital and spending time with patients and their families, giving them comfort and support in time of need," says Aron Spielman, co-founder of the Orthodox Jewish Publish Affairs Council.
The UJO says it doesn't want to hear words of sympathy time and time again, saying we must act now to avoid mourning lives in the future.
