A 77-year-old woman has died after police say she was struck by a car in Sheepshead Bay. 

It happened at the intersection of Gravesend Neck Road and East 21st Street around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The woman was transported to Coney Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead, police say. 

Investigators say a white 2005 Ford Econoline van was travelling southbound on East 21st Street and attempted to make a left turn onto Gravesend Neck Road where it struck the 77-year-old woman as she crossed the street. 

Police say the driver, 23-year-old Zafrom Ghafoor stayed on the scene, but was arrested and is facing charges.
