One All Hallows senior has gone from underdog to Division 1 basketball player.
Nick Johnson, of Longwood, is the first All Hallows High School basketball player to receive a Division 1 scholarship since Mike Alvarado in 2010.
College coaches began to take notice as Johnson showed flashes his sophomore year, but they weren't the only ones. Other high schools started calling, telling Johnson to transfer from All Hallows. However, he stayed put.
"I knew the legacy behind it and I knew how big it would be for me and the school,” says Johnson. “Like we're a small school, so to hear a Division 1 player coming out is big for us and just because of everything they did for me."
It all came together this past summer, with over a half dozen Division 1 schools offering Johnson a scholarship.  After some thinking and a couple of visits he made his decision, committing to the University of New Hampshire.
"I’ve strived to be somebody and strived for a name for myself and now that people see me and they know who I am and know where I’m going and where I’m committed to, for people to know the name of the school and know me, just a lot of hard work is paying off and I’m grateful,” says Johnson.
Johnson says one of the main reasons he chose New Hampshire, because it's like All Hallows, with the same colors and a name that he wants people to learn.
