A Bronx teenager allegedly beaten by police officers as he was being arrested has been freed after his family posted $10,000 bail.
Outside the Bronx Hall of Justice, 19-year-old Jateik Reed thanked a cheering crowd of family, friends, and other supporters. The teen's father says he is grateful for all the support they've received from the community.
"Most people came out for the right reasons and that is a blessing," said Bernard Walker.
Reed's family claims NYPD officers used excessive force on him as he was arrested two weeks ago on drug charges. The arrest, caught on video, allegedly shows officers striking Reed with a baton and kicking him. The police say Reed was resisting arrest, an allegation Reed and his lawyers deny.
Reed's lawyers now want a special prosecutor to investigate the case to make sure the officers involved are held responsible.
