Another artificial reef is being created off the South Shore to help marine life survive and thrive.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo was on Point Lookout Friday morning to announce the start of the new reef.
"We've done damage, and we have to change our mindset…our mission is now to restore from the damage that we have done," says the governor.
The reef is located about 3.5 miles south of Jones Beach.
Old canal vessels and debris from the Tappan Zee Bridge will be dumped to give fish a place to thrive. It's among 12 reefs being made off Long Island, from Shinnecock to the Rockaways.
In May, the state lowered a two decommissioned vessels and more Tappan Zee debris into the Shinnecock Inlet to help create a similar artificial reef.
