Several anti-violence groups met with residents to discuss a violent weekend in Coney Island Wednesday.
Coney Island Anti-Violence Coalition along with others hoped to offer a therapeutic response.
Originally, police received a call Sunday morning around 2 a.m. that a man was shot near West 23rd Street. When officers arrived, they say they found four injured men between the ages of 27 and 41.
They say the 27-year-old man died at the hospital. On Saturday, just two blocks away on 25th Street, another man was shot and killed.
Advocates say because of how young the victims are it has been especially appalling. They say they want community members to know they are not alone.
"This behavior should never be accepted as normal. We're here to show solidarity with the community, offer services to treat some of the traumas that are plaguing communities that are impacted by gun violence,” said CIAVC Executive Director Keisha Boatswain.
Residents say it takes one person to make a difference in ending gun violence.
"We got guys out here we call them OGs, we need them to step up and grab some of them back from the edge, you can't say you something unless you're not being it, help us out,” a resident told News 12.
The group offers therapeutic counseling and intervention as well for anyone who needs it --remote or in person.
