A nonprofit organization has been working to make a difference for the Arab American community in New York City.
The Arab American Association of New York has provided essential services for people in the Arab American community since 2001.
The group provides a wide range of critical support services for more than 7,000 people annually. Some services are programs for mental health, domestic violence and immigration legal services.
During the pandemic, the office was turned into a relief hub where staff distributed boxes of food to over 800 families. The organization continued its programs virtually as well.
The Arab American Association of New York also focuses on empowering youth by training the future leaders of not only the organization, but the community.
Distribution events, in which those in need could get up to $100, were held every Tuesday during the month of Ramadan.
More information on the group can be found on their website.
