Protesters outside City Hall called for financial accountability in the Atlantic Yards project Wednesday.
Community groups claim the city's $59 billion 2008 fiscal budget allocates $100 million to developer Forest City Ratner. Critics worry taxpayer dollars will go toward the acquisition of private property and the buyout of homeowners as part of the Nets arena development.
Protesters demanded the city deny the funds until the developer tells the public what the money will go toward. They argue the project needs to be more transparent.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg counters the $100 million was going to go toward infrastructure repairs in the area, whether or not the arena is built.
