Police confirm a 70-year-old woman was killed Tuesday night in an apartment fire on Lafayette Avenue in Bed-Stuy.
The FDNY says the fire broke out in an apartment on the first floor of the four-story building just before 11 p.m. It was put out in less than an hour.
Neighbors tell News 12 the victim lived with her husband in the apartment where the fire started. They describe the home to have 'hoarder-like' conditions, which they believe would have made escaping the fire very difficult. It's not clear if the husband was home at the time, but he survived.
According to court documents, the couple is currently involved in litigation brought forth by the landlord.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
