Acting on a tip, authorities located what is believed to be a male teen killed by MS-13 in a wooded area near Kellenberg Memorial High School.
Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says multiple agencies responded to “information that was received” that led them to the burial site.
"It is MS-13," he told reporters.
Commissioner Ryder says the information about the body’s location between Glenn Curtis Boulevard and the Meadowbrook Parkway in a sump was received Tuesday night. He said that detectives, DEA and HSI located the gravesite and came back to dig Wednesday morning.
Ryder says the body was discovered in a shallow grave only a foot and a half deep. The source of information led police to believe that the teen was killed at the location. Ryder also said he believes five people responsible for the killing are already in custody, but did not elaborate on any potential suspects.
The commissioner said there was no reason to believe that more bodies would be discovered at the location, but the dig would continue into the evening in pursuit of evidence.
Ryder, County Executive Laura Curran and District Attorney Madeline Singas told reporters Wednesday that this sort of violence in the county would not stand.
In the last year and a half, five other teens believed murdered by MS-13 gang members were found in wooded areas not far from the East Meadow site. Those teens include Angel Soler, Joshua Aguilar, Kerin Pineda, Javier Castillo and Julio Ceasar Gonzales-Espantzay. Police believe the sixth teen was also murdered more than a year ago.
Police are awaiting DNA results before they release the identity of this latest victim.
