Friends and neighbors are mourning the loss of an East Flatbush teenager who was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon in SoHo.
Police say 16-year-old Mahki Brown was shot in the head and thigh on Spring Street in lower Manhattan around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
First responders attempted lifesaving efforts at the scene. Brown was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
The teen grew up on East 93rd Street in East Flatbush. His friends say he was an only child who loved to play basketball and enjoyed being outside. They say he was shot not too far from where he attended school.
People who live in the building say the news is devastating.
"You're going to send your child out to school or wherever, and you're expecting your child to come back, and then you get this news that your child is dead. It has to be very devastating to the family," said Nadine Johnson, a resident of the building.
Police say there are no arrests at this time.
