Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes held a news conference Wednesday to announce a seizure of counterfeit goods worth millions of dollars.
Hynes says the items included imitations of sportswear and household and luxury items made by Nike, the National Football League and Major League Baseball.
Among the items seized were baseball caps, shirts, sunglasses, handbags, batteries and toys.
"This is only the tip of the iceberg. How many more warehouses like this exist throughout the city?" says Hynes. "This is a very serious problem."
Authorities say they have arrested a couple, Jianfeng Guo and Saile Gao, in the alleged counterfeit scheme. The couple is accused of selling the items through their company, Eastern Trading Company.
The seized goods are worth $4 million, authorities say.
Authorities also say that counterfeit items can be dangerous. They say batteries such as those allegedly sold by Guo have a propensity to explode and may contain mercury.
Prosecutors say the Eastern Trading Company made $30 million yearly from the alleged counterfeit goods.
