Federal agents and NYPD officers have taken down more than two dozen suspected gang members in the South Bronx.
Prosecutors accuse the 33 suspects of committing crimes that include bank fraud, bank fraud conspiracy, racketeering conspiracy, conspiracy to distribute narcotics, firearms offenses and violent crime in aid of racketeering.
Authorities say they took down at least three criminal organizations -- one that goes by two names: "MBG" and the "Millbrook Gangstas;" a second called "Young Gunnaz" and a third known as "Killbrook."
Court documents state that the defendants and others were members and associates of Killbrook, or "The Enterprise," a criminal organization whose members and associates allegedly engaged in murder, shootings, robbery and narcotics trafficking, among other activities.
Killbrook principally operated in the vicinity of the housing development known as the Mill Brook Houses in the Bronx.
Prosecutors say a total of 24 people were taken into custody on Wednesday. Five others were already in state custody on other charges.
The FBI, DEA and NYPD worked together during the investigation, saying the crews wreaked havoc on the Mill Brook Houses for years. Maximum potential sentences for some offenses are up to life in prison. The defendants were to appear in Manhattan federal court on Wednesday.
News 12 reported on at least one of the major crimes allegedly committed by the suspected gang members. On April 18, 2011, Gary Davis, also known as "Reckless" and "Poppa," was accused of killing 21-year-old Bolivia Beck in broad daylight near the Mill Brook Houses. Prosecutors said Davis was a member of Killbrook and that Killbrook members profited from selling crack cocaine and marijuana.
