Man wants intersection changes after wife hit by car
A Bay Ridge man is demanding changes to an intersection that he says almost claimed his wife's life in February.
The intersection is at located Marine Avenue and Ridge Boulevard.
Monica Kanter says she is stuck in bed and unable to walk after a 95-year-old driver hit her as she crossed the road on Feb. 24. She says she saw the driver stopped at a stop sign across the street and noticed she was looking down at her seat, so she felt it was safe to cross. As she did, she says the driver accelerated. Kanter ended up on the hood of the car and claims the driver told her to get off. A good Samaritan blocked the driver until police arrived.
Her husband, Daniel, is grateful that his wife is alive but wants a stop light installed so that others can be safe.
"I'd like to assure that nobody gets killed. My wife almost got killed," he says. "If that lady had continued, she would have run her over and the damages that were done to my wife were extensive, she's still healing. Here it is May 10 and she can't walk still."
News 12 reached out to Sen. Marty Golden for comment and is waiting to hear back.
A spokesperson for the New York City Department of Transportation says a traffic study is underway to examine the area, but results aren't expected for another few months.
