Bed-Stuy native Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller could be the next great heavyweight boxer from Brooklyn, following in the footsteps of names like Tyson, and Bowe.
Miller holds 7 consecutive knockouts leading into his next fight and home debut at the Barclays Center.
"Fighting in Brooklyn is amazing, period, fighting in Barclays is cool, but just fighting in Brooklyn is monumental for me," Miller says.
Miller started training at the age of 14 as a kickboxer.
He was boxing by 16, he's been alternating between the two sports ever since.
His upcoming boxing match on July 29 against Gerald Washington, former world title challenger at Barclays Center, he says, is the biggest of his career.
"Martial arts is actually what kept me grounded, but it also kept me motivated because when boxing dried, I went back to kickboxing and multi-sport fighting and thank god it worked out this way, where I'm able to keep myself financially thanks only to boxing," he says.
Miller started his own promotional company, linking boxing with business but he's focused now on his upcoming bout.
"Everybody knows me as a hype, a big guy that's fun-loving," Miller says. "I'm going to magically make this little sock fit on my big foot.
But once that bell rings I'm a frigging Tyrannosaurus Rex, fangs and a diesel engine, I'm coming to run something over."
Currently the 27th ranked heavyweight in the world, Miller may soon have his sights set on gold.
