Bed-Stuy tenant has problems with mold and flooding
A Gates Avenue tenant has reached out to News 12 Brooklyn after she says numerous complaints to her building's management have gone ignored and problems have gotten worse.
Wanda Morefield, who lives at the Marcus Garvey Apartments, says conditions in her apartment have worsened after a leaky pipe burst and flooded her entire apartment with about 2 inches of water. Without renters' insurance and on disability, Morefield says she didn't know what to do.
The damage from the flooding increased the mold in the apartment, which Morefield says triggered her 12-year-old daughter's asthma. Maintenance came about an hour after the pipe burst to fix things. The mold has been a problem for the past year, with Morefield and other tenants complaining to the city numerous times, but management doing nothing.
A spokesperson for the management office says they will work with Morefield to replace her damaged property and fix the broken pipe and remove all the mold.
