A Brooklyn academy is teaching kids the breathtaking stunts that straphangers commonly see while on their daily commute.
Brooklyn's Breaking Academy in Bath Beach teaches all of the important skills of break-dancing.
The academy's coach teaches combos and how to battle someone else. They also stress patience.
"You're stepping out in a circle with all these people watching you and you're the center focus right there," says coach Justin Velez. "A lot of it is hard and it's a lot to take in at first."
The academy sets a goal to have dancers' mistakes happen in practice, and not on the big stage.
"In a breaking scene you build up your reputation through battling people," says Velez. "So all they want to look forward to is build up that rep."
A growing reputation could come with the ultimate payoff -- an international competition in Portugal in May.
