Cyclists from across Brooklyn gathered Saturday to take a ride in honor of Diversity Day, which celebrates multiculturalism in the borough.
Kevin Johnson says he rides his bicycle all the time, but he views this event as different.
"I like riding bikes, and I'm relatively new to Brooklyn, so this is an opportunity to drive through some neighborhoods I haven't perhaps seen before," he says.
According to many of the participants, getting to see the borough up close was an added bonus. Diversity Day was celebrated for the first time in 2007, but the bike ride was introduced only this year.
"I think it's a great way for people to get to know each other [and] see everything Brooklyn has to offer,? says Elijah Seabrook.
The only obstacle the participants of the event had to face was the looming presence of Tropical Storm Hanna early Saturday. There were not as many cyclists as first hoped for, but organizers are hoping more people will join them next year.
