As anti-Asian hate crimes around the United State are on the rise, local and national officials are banding together to push for passage of a federal bill to fight such crimes.

According to the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism, 16 of the United States' largest cities had an increased rate of 149% in reported Asian hate crime incidents. 

The new bill aims to help bring more resources on a federal and local level to help the issue. 

The bill still needs to be passed by the House, and President Joe Biden would need to sign off on it.

For it to work, people must report hate crime incidents, which Congress members say they hope will happen with the part of the bill that calls for expedited reviews of reported cases.
