The Brooklyn family that lost its Foster Avenue home in a Tuesday fire returned Wednesday to survey the damage and look for anything salvageable.
Ahmar Rashid and his relative Mohammad Yeseen say they did not even get to paint the molding at their recently renovated home before the blaze that broke out inside the house next door spread to their residence, destroying it. The men say every one of their 17 relatives escaped without harm.
"We [are] just trying to get some clothes for the kids and whatever's left over," Rashid says.
Rashid and Yeseen say they hope one day to move back into their house on Foster Avenue. In the meantime, the Red Cross put them up for one more night in a hotel.
Fire officials are working to determine the exact cause of the blaze. Five people, including three firefighters, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
