The demolition of a church more than 100 years old brought a Methodist congregation to a Lutheran church Sunday.

The Bay Ridge United Methodist Church recently shut its doors in order to be replaced by a smaller, environmentally friendly church. The congregation, with no place to worship, was then invited into the halls of Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd.

"They needed a place to stay and it seemed logical for us," says David Rommereim, the pastor of Good Shepherd.

Lois Habenicht, a Methodist parishioner, says the experience has broadened her views although there has been a period of adjustment. "There [have] been minor changes in both services ... the bells and different mechanisms of worship," she says.

The pastors of both churches say the agreement to worship together was initially intended only for the summer, but based on how well it's been received, it may carry over into the winter months.
