A Brooklyn man may be the first suspect in the city to be prosecuted under the new ?Crimes Against Police? law.
Police say 25-year-old Damien Henry was not allowed into a bar on Utica Avenue because bouncers believed he had a gun. When police responded to the scene, Henry exchanged gunfire with the officers. None of the officers were injured. Henry was hit multiple times and is recovering. He is charged with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.
The ?Crimes Against Police? law was passed last month following the death of two New York City police officers. The death of Officer Dillon Stewart occurred in Brooklyn. Tests show Henry allegedly once possessed a gun used to kill Stewart. If Henry is convicted under the new law, he faces a minimum of 20 to 40 years in prison.
