A Bushwick woman is blaming NYC Health and Hospitals at Woodhull for the death of her 7-year-old daughter.
Kareena Murriel's daughter A'Mari died at the hospital last month. She is now filing a wrongful death lawsuit against NYC Health and Hospital at Woodhull and claims that a neglectful doctor's misdiagnosis killed her daughter.
Murriel told News 12 that a doctor diagnosed her daughter with a flu-like illness. She says she told the doctor she believed her daughter had strep throat but the doctor wouldn't test for the disease.
The mother says she then went to the front desk to speak with the nurses and insisted someone test her daughter for strep throat. She says a nurse did test A’Mari for strep throat, then gave her Tamiflu and sent them home.
Murriel brought her daughter to the hospital the next day after her symptoms got worse. A'Mari died less than 48 hours later.
Doctors told Murriel that A'Mari did test positive for strep throat and then pneumonia.
"I wake up every day with a constant reminder of how my daughter passed away and how I feel like I'm just lost without her," Murriel said.
A spokesperson for the hospital responded by saying, “The untimely death of any child is always tragic. Our heartfelt thoughts are with the family.”
