Donald Trump, who is seeking the Republican nomination to run for president, called for the country to stop Muslims from entering, prompting a strong reaction from Muslim-Americans throughout the country, including in Brooklyn.
Responding to reports that the San Bernardino shooters were radical Islamic extremists, Trump called for "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States."
"We are just as much of an American as he is and anybody else is," says Afranul Hoque, of East New York.
Local Muslim leaders say that Trump's comments are at odds with core American principles -- like the freedom of religion protected in the First Amendment.
"He's trying to destroy the very American way of life, which is tolerance, and it's a country that is built by immigrants," says Jahngir Kabir of CAIR, a Muslim advocacy group.
