A Brooklyn organization that has prioritized the welfare of urban youth for more than 20 years has proposed to open a charter school in Sunset Park.
The leaders of Children of the City say the school would hold the same values of the organization. It would be the first charter school in the area and would house about 600 students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
The founder of Children of the City says the organization has affected the lives of many young members of the Brooklyn community by offering tutoring sessions, guardianship and financial literacy lessons in hopes of encouraging teens and children to do well in school and value themselves.
