BK residents help others on 9/11 anniversary
The eighth anniversary of Sept. 11 marked the first year as a day of service and remembrance.
President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Legislation in April.
The founder of the Bed-Stuy Campaign for Hunger on Fulton Street says the food pantry helps feed nearly 10,000 families a month. She says the pantry received some very welcome help on Friday with 12 extra volunteers.
While some praise the day of service, others feel the declaration downplays the tragedy that cost nearly 3,000 Americans their lives.
