A Brooklyn teacher was arrested on sexual abuse charges today for allegedly touching a student at the Brooklyn Academy of Science and the Environment in Crown Heights.
Police say a 16-year-old girl made an accusation Friday against gym teacher Esran Boothe, claiming that the man touched her on school grounds.
Some students at the school were not surprised by the arrest, describing Boothe as a "pervert." However, officials from the Department of Education say Boothe has no prior arrests or allegations against him.
In a statement, Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said a staff member who violates the trust of students doesn't deserve to work in New York City schools. Boothe has been charged with sexual abuse and forcible touching.
