Some Brooklyn teenagers are getting the opportunity to showcase their talents through a youth program targeted at keeping kids off the streets.
Moving Mountains, Inc., which was started by Brooklyn-born actor Jamie Hector, provides an escape for youth ages 12 to 20 from the negativity of some neighborhoods. Currently, the theater group is rehearsing for a Thursday performance of its show focused on preventing gun violence.
Hector says the program gives teens a chance to hone their singing and dancing skills, while also educating through performing art. He says most teens leave the program with new values and life principles.
