A block party celebrating pop icon Michael Jackson and Brooklyn native Spike Lee shut down Stuyvesant Avenue on Saturday.

The event featured the street renaming of Stuyvesant Avenue to "Do The Right Thing Way," in honor of Lee's 1989 film that depicted racial tension in the Bedford-Stuyvesant community.

"It's still recognized, still popping today," said Lee. "We tell the truth in the film. Truth doesn't get old."

It's the first time in the history of New York City that a street has been renamed for a work of art.

The event was also an opportunity for the community to discuss how to prevent violence in the community. Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson attended the event to promote justice and peace in the borough.

The block party also honored the King of Pop on what would have been his 57th birthday.
