Bloomberg: NYC, teachers reach deal on evaluations
(AP) - Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the city has reached a deal with the teachers' union on the contentious issue of how teachers are evaluated.
The deal will enable the city to collect millions of dollars in federal aid.
Earlier Thursday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a statewide agreement on teacher evaluations in public schools.
The deal will make student performance count for 40 percent of a teacher's grade.
In New York City, the sticking point had been the appeals process for teachers who receive bad ratings.
Cuomo said in Albany that he had helped broker a deal on the appeals process between the city and the United Federation of Teachers.
