Brooklyn tenants in a rent stabilized building say their new landlord is purposely letting the building fall apart so they will leave. The new owner of 221 Avenue F, Yeshiva Nesivos Chaima, recently gave the tenants eviction notices and refused to renew their leases. Under Yeshiva's non-profit status, landlords can legally force tenants out. Residents, however, say the landlord wants them to leave sooner and is making them live in deplorable conditions. The city has issued more than 400 violations at the building, 49 of which were supposed to be fixed within 24 hours. Tenants say not only should the city enforce these violations, but the bank that holds the buildings mortgage should also get involved.
