Borough President Eric Adams on Tuesday unveiled a plan called "Fueling Brooklyn's Future" that has recommendations for swapping out traditional gasoline for sustainable fuel.

"Fossil fuel is a thing of the past," he said.

Surrounded by electric cars from various manufacturers, Adams, who drives a hybrid vehicle, said the devastating effects of 2012's Superstorm Sandy and the lack of gas during that time are what caused him to advocate for the change.

"After and during Superstorm Sandy we realized that the emergency needs of our emergency fleet..police officers, firefighters and first responders were unable to find fuel..they couldn't find stations," Adams said.

Gowanus resident Iliana Cherry agrees with the change, saying it's beneficial for both her family and the city.

"I think they're wonderful cars," she said. "We need some clean air, especially in a big city like New York."

The plan backs those claims, stating that electric cars would not only be good for the environment, but great for health, job creation and the economy.
