Tenants of the New York City Housing Authority's Breukelen Houses voiced concerns about living conditions at a town hall meeting Monday in Canarsie.
Organizers say the town hall was an opportunity to empower residents who say they don't want to live in a state of disrepair and decrepit conditions anymore.
Lawyer Sanford Rubenstein gave a speech alerting tenants to their rights when it comes to injuries. Assemblyman Charles Barron and City Councilwoman Inez Barron talked to the attendees about how they can work together to see results.
Community members filled out surveys to indicate the issues they're facing.
Organizers say it's important for the tenants to know what they can do to demand change, including more government funding to provide repairs and resources.
