Brooklyn residents who use the Hamilton Avenue Bridge say their commute has been complicated by another construction project.

Commuters say a sea of orange and white construction barriers has blanketed the bridge since Sunday and brought traffic to a standstill. The new construction comes after a similar project last summer that focused on the opposite side of the bridge, which goes over the Gowanus Canal.

Crews with the city's Department of Transportation are working to finish replacing the old bridge structure. As part of the changes, the workers have closed lanes and sidewalks. The amount of lanes moving across the bridge in each direction has been reduced to two.

"It's tying up the traffic - the local people going to the market, to the McDonald's, all that's tied up," says John Russo, who uses the bridge to commute.

The DOT has said that the lanes should be reopened to the public by September.
