The Brighton Beach Library will close its doors Saturday for a long overdue makeover.
The library will be closed for seven months as part of a $1.3 billion renovation project. The money will go toward replacing heating and cooling systems along with electrical wiring. Furniture and other interior parts of the library will also be updated.
The closing does present a problem for some residents. Community officials say many elderly residents rely on the library as their primary source of communication, especially since it is one of the only handicapped-accessible libraries in the area.
A small trailer will be set up outside the library while it's closed. The trailer will be loaded with books on Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, some residents say that's not enough.
