A Bronx bodega owner is on a mission to help his Morris Heights community make healthier eating choices.
Bakil Aljardi is taking part in the city's healthy bodega initiative by keeping his West Tremont Avenue store stocked with plenty of apples, bananas and oranges.
Aljardi says that since his store is located directly across the street from M.S. 331, he's also teamed up with students to help them find healthier lunch options, such as a turkey sandwich on wheat bread with water.
State Sen. Gustavo Rivera (D-Bronx) recently honored Aljardi for taking an interest in his community's eating habits. An award now sits proudly outside the bodega.
