Bronx Bombers give away backpacks at Pelham Bay school
Students at a Bronx school started the school year on the right foot Friday with new backpacks and supplies delivered by some Bronx Bombers.
There were rows and rows of smiles at PS/MS 71 as Didi Gregorius and Aaron Hicks greeted students during their morning assembly.
The Yankees teammates served as ambassadors for CC Sabathia's PitCCh In Foundation, which helps inner-city kids in the tri-state area.
The 1,700 students were among 2,000 recipients of the citywide bag giveaway.
Gregorius said after the team’s West Coast trip, it was good to be back in the Bronx.
“That's where our fans are, and we appreciate them,” he said.
