Despite a heartbreaking loss of more than a dozen prominent members, a Bronx house of worship is continuing to give back to the community and families in need. 

St. Lukes Episcopal Church says numerous church members were hospitalized due to the coronavirus and that 15 parishioners died. 

“It's like losing your brother, your father, your mother, your sister - we're all family here. It's very sad,” Father Duvert tells News 12. 

Despite the overwhelming loss, the church is continuing to serve the Wakefield community--one of the Bronx neighborhoods hit hardest by the coronavirus. 

Five days a week, the church’s soup kitchen is open and has mostly stayed open throughout the pandemic. Every Wednesday, bags of groceries are handed out at its pantry. 

Since the outbreak, the church says it has been seeing more families in need.
